30th Annual Seattle International Standup Comedy CompetitionThe 30th Annual Seattle International Stand-up Comedy Competition is in full swing; semi-finals began Tuesday Nov 17 right here at The Comedy Underground. The top 10 comics have all won cash and are still in the running for the Grand Prize of $5000 cash and a record deal. Go to http://www.seattlecomedycompetition.com for complete information, including schedule, tix, bios, pix and the CompBlog daily updates. The Competition is a contest-slash-touring festival, consisting of 23 shows over 26 days in 19 venues in Western Washington and features 32 professional comedians competing for over $15,000 in cash prizes. This year's field of comedians come from New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Boston, Austin, Charlotte, Miami, Montreal, Chicago, and even Sydney, Australia. Representatives from most major TV networks and Hollywood agencies will be coming to Seattle to scout talent. This is undoubtedly the strongest and most talented field overall of any in recent memory; we considered literally hundreds of applicants, and had to turn down many who in “ordinary” years would have been invited. There is no doubt we could have cast at least two groups of 32 comics of equal ability. Winner gets $5000 cash and a CD recording contract with Uproar Entertainment, America’s #1 comedy label (Brian Regan, John Pinnette, National Lampoon, etc). This competition began in 1980, and has been held every year since. Past participants include Patton Oswalt, Mitch Hedberg, Ross Shafer, Aisha Tyler, Brian Posehn, among many others. Recently, 2007 Winner “Marcus” went on to be the runner-up on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” The 30th Annual Seattle International StandUp Comedy Competition is sponsored by Pagliacci Pizza. Mmmmm. Complete information, including schedule of events, tickets, and photos and bios of the participants can be found at: http://www.seattlecomedycompetition.com. |
