Q&A with Comedian Susan Jones – CityArts

Susan Jones is a Seattle-based comic who’s been going at it hard since the ’90s. She’s a Puyallup native, single mom and former Tacoma strip club DJ who can instantly silence a rowdy roadhouse crowd with her commanding stage presence.

Comedian Susan Jones is headlining Comedy Underground October 29-31, 2015.

She was interviewed by Brett Hamil for CityArts.

Susan Jones has outrageous stories of working in stand-up comedy. I have personally witnessed a few of the stories myself. She has been a fixture in the Tacoma comedy community for years and has worked with a number of comics over the years and used to work with comics like Brody Stevens, Joey Diaz, Josh Wolf, Teina Manu, Ralph Porter, Heneghen, Kyle Cease and Kelly Moran.

Some of them went on to become notorious nationwide.

She’s a Puyallup native, single mom and former Tacoma strip club DJ who can instantly silence a rowdy roadhouse crowd with her commanding stage presence. In the past decade of constant touring she’s also developed the more subtle skills that are the mark of an accomplished veteran. She’s reached a point in her career where opportunities have begun to open up for her: theatre tours, television appearances and development deals.

Return of the Natives

RETURN OF THE NATIVE(S) — Rick Kunkler is back from his latest Hollywood sojourn just in time to join our next “Witty City” show, 6/11-13, along with Drew Barth, who has also done his share of SoCal dabbling. Both are past finalists in the annual Seattle International Comedy Competition.

More immediately, Andy Haynes flies in today from New York to headline here tonight thru Sunday. He brings back a “Jimmy Fallon” appearance to his credit.

You CAN go home again

You CAN go home again — Two of our favorite Seattle expatriates, Andrew Sleighter and Andy Haynes, return this and next weekend, respectively, to headline at the comedy Underground.

Among other things since moving to L.A., Andrew has been a regular cast member on MTV’s “Money from Strangers.” Andy will be coming back from New York where he’s been turning heads with his performances, including an appearance on “Conan.”

Like they say, their futures are so bright, they’ll just have to wear shades — especially considering this incredible weather we’ve been enjoying.

Andrew Sleighter is a regular at colleges and comedy clubs across the country. He has performed at the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival, the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, The Laugh Your Asheville-Off Comedy Festival and was a finalist at the Laughing Skull Festival in Atlanta. He’s performed at the Cabo Comedy Festival and the Johnny Carson Great American Comedy Festival. Andrew is the creator and writer of the well read sports twitter Danica Patrick Ewing.

andy haynesAndy Haynes is a comedian from Seattle, who grew up on salmon and caffeine. He now lives in New York, and works as a mover, despite the fact the fact that he went to college to be not a mover. If he lied more, he’d also say writer, actor, filmmaker, and good father.

He works wherever he can, but mainly at clubs, colleges, and festivals around the English speaking world.

Check them both out. They represent the can’t miss comedy we have been presenting for years.

WITTY CITY

WITTY CITY — Recent record crowds at our Monday open mic and Tuesday call back shows demonstrate that Seattle comedy fans are supporting up-and-coming local acts like never before. With this in mind, we are initiating a new series, “Witty City,” to focus on the amazing talent currently residing in The Emerald City.

In a tri-headliner format, we are presenting Emmett Montgomery, Monica Nevi and Kortney Shane Williams, 5/14-16. Come be part of the process of helping these deserving northwest acts move forward with their careers.

Coming Out Party

No, not that kind of coming out. Scott Losse (rhymes with posse) is making his headlining debut here tonight.

Having witnessed him pull off one of the most ballsy moves I’ve ever seen when on New Year’s Eve he went into the audience at the Admiral Theater in Bremerton and confiscated noisy kazoos from several rowdy patrons, I’m impressed with Scott’s daredevil antics onstage. He deserves your support.
