The Seattle International Comedy Competition starts November 5, 2014 at The Columbia City Theatre in Seattle and continues nightly until a winner is crowned on Sunday, November 30 here at The Comedy Underground in Seattle.

How it Works

There are two “preliminary” rounds of 16 comedians; each comedian gets 5 minutes to impress. The Preliminary rounds consist of 6 shows, and a combination of entertainment industry and celebrity judges and audience reaction determines who moves on when each performer’s 5 best scores are tallied.

The top 5 comics from the Preliminaries make the semi-finals; all the semi-finalists win some cash, and get to compete for the title by performing for 10 minutes nightly for 5 shows.

At the last Semi-Final show at the Snoqualmie Casino on Sunday, November 23, the finalists are announced. Five get to go big, and five get to go home. After 2 days to recover and plan, the Final round begins on Tuesday November 26 at the Washington Athletic Club. After visits to theaters in Vashon, Kirkland, and Bremerton, and back to Comedy Underground, where a new champion is crowned.

The Comedy Underground is the only venue where you can catch each week of the Preliminaries, the Semi-Finals and the final show.

Erik Myers recording new comedy album at Comedy Underground

Comedy Underground is pleased to announce that once again we have partnered with Uproar Entertainment for a comedy album recording with Erik Myers at the Seattle Comedy Underground, July 31 to August 2, 2014.

The Comedy Underground is pleased to announce that once again we have partnered with Uproar Entertainment for a comedy album recording with Erik Myers at the Seattle Comedy Underground July 31 to August 2, 2014.

Erik’s TV special, Dopeless Romantic has been extremely well received and we are excited to see what he brings to the Comedy Underground.

Erik Myers is a high energy comedian with a machine gun delivery that has been entertaining crowds with his stories about getting sober, bad jobs and bad dates all over the country for the past 13 years.

Born and raised in Maryland, Erik Myers grew up watching Saturday Night Live and dreaming of one day being a comedian. His very first Stand Up performance was during a second grade show and tell where he used a stuffed animal prop. All of the kids loved it! Officially, Erik started his comedy career thirteen years ago with a performance at Winchesters Pub in Baltimore, Maryland. Since then he has performed in over 35 states across America. His comedy has been described as Rodney Dangerfield meets Sam Kinison.

Erik Myers has opened for some of the biggest names in comedy, including Mitch Hedberg, Daniel Tosh, Pablo Francisco and Louis CK. He is the winner of the 2005 Funniest Person in Baltimore Contest, 2nd Runner Up in the 2006 Funniest Comedian in DC Contest and he won the 2012 Florida’s Funniest Comedian Contest. He recently filmed his first TV appearance in Gotham Comedy Live on AXS TV. Some of Myers’ early influences include Sam Kinison, Bill Hicks, Eddie Murphy, Jim Carry, Adam Sandler, and Chris Farley. Once Myers got started in comedy, he became addicted. “It was all he ever wanted to do!”

Exit Interview: Comedian Mitch Burrow

Mitch Burrow is an ex-Marine from Georgia who’s spent the past seven years doing comedy in Seattle. With his fish-out-of-water Southern drawl, deceptively smart material, and fearlessly loose audience interactions, he worked his way up from the open mics to become a respected regular at all the area clubs and alt-rooms. He’s one of the most consistently funny comics in town.

Resident Comedy Underground comedian Brett Hamil interviews resident Comedy Underground comedian Mitch Burrow on the state of Seattle comedy. Sadly for us, Mitch Burrow is moving to Los Angeles. We wish him the best of luck.

City Arts Recommends Laurie Kilmartin

City Arts recommends Laurie Kilmartin as an act to See It This Week and we couldn’t agree more.

Laurie Kilmartin is on her annual 10 week hiatus from writing for Conan so she can tour comedy clubs. Laurie Kilmartin will be performing one night only on July 5, 2014 at Comedy Underground. You can order tickets through TicketWeb.

Rory Scovil is Undatable

One of our favorite comedians Rory Scovil will be appearing on an upcoming episode of NBC’s comedy, Undateable. The episode is called, “Let Their Be Light”. This show also features another favorite comic, Ron Funches.

Rory thinks this show is developing well over the first eight episodes. The cast is comprised of a lot of standup comics who make us laugh constantly on and off stage. If you enjoy the show already or this is your first time checking it out, let others know about it.

Rory was named Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch in 2012. He has appeared on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon”, “Conan”, Comedy Central’s “The Half Hour” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”.

You should check it out.

Joe Larson Filming New Special at Comedy Underground

NOT TO BE OUTDONE — Joe Larson, just like Jared Logan who we wrote about yesterday, is also coming in from New York and he also was on TV last week. Moreover, he will be the subject of a three-camera shoot at the Seattle Comedy Underground, March 21-23, 2014 for a cable TV special.

Not only that, but his DAD, Elliot Maxx, a Seattle resident and previous two-time winner of the Seattle International Comedy Competition, will be opening for him. How cool is that?

Advance tickets area available at TicketWeb.

Here is Joe Larson on Gotham Comedy Live:

ONLY SEEN AT COMEDY UNDERGROUND – JARED LOGAN

ONLY SEEN HERE — We get a bit tired of other Puget Sound clubs glomming comedians we debut to the Pacific Northwest. So, when we were asked to hire Jared Logan from New York (originally West Virginia), our attitude was, “Hey, if we bring Jared to Seattle, we want him to ourselves for awhile.” And the enlightened folks over at William Morris Agency actually agreed.

Jared Logan performs April 17-19, 2014 and we know you haven’t seen him in town since he was here last. Advance tickets are on sale.

Here’s a clip of Jared Logan from a recent appearance on the Pete Holmes Show (and kudos to them for given him a full six minutes):
